I have fibrocystic breast condition and have been prescribed danazol. Is that the only cure?

Question by anashrey: I have fibrocystic breast condition and have been prescribed danazol. Is that the only cure?
A recent biopsy of a lump I had discovered in my breast revealed that I have fibrocystic breast condition. I have been prescribed danazol by my doctor, but have read that danazol has too many side effects. Is there no other cure for this condition? Can I avoid the drug altogether since I am not experiencing any pain in my breasts?

Answer by Tarkarri
This is something you should discuss with your treating Dr.

They may be able to suggest an alternative and are in a position to say if you can go without.

Dr’s take all the information we provide when prescribing medications, if you emphasize your concern with side effects, this will be put into the equation when deciding what drugs, if any ,should be prescribed.

I have my Dr so well trained that she will sometimes reach for the prescription pad then pause and ask if I will take a certain medication if she prescribes it. I always answer yes, but only if you are sure I need it. She is well aware of my loathing to take anything not absolutely essential.

Breast Discomfort in 3rd Trimester?

Question by Mommy to 2 precious baby girls!: Breast Discomfort in 3rd Trimester?
I am 31 weeks and for the past couple weeks, I’m having really sore breasts. It feels like I’m going to get my period or when I was first pregnant. It hurts to take a shower. The only reason I’m confused is because they stopped hurting for a long time and now the pain is back. I can’t remember when the pain started, ended, returned, etc as my other child is 6 1/2. I am also thinking that I’m farther along than I am. My technical (full) LMP would put my due date at 9/27/08, but my ultrasounds put my due date at 11/9/08. My daughter was 5lb 5oz full term. I’m just not sure if I’m having a small baby again. Opinions??
My doctor gave me a due date of 11/9/08

For the pain, use cold, not hot, thats why a shower is probably hurting you.

Fibrocystic Breast and Mammogram, what age?

Question by : Fibrocystic Breast and Mammogram, what age?
I have fibrocystic breast “changes”. I am 21, I was wondering when do I need a mammogram? It only bothers me in one breast and it is just mildly sore, more annoying than anything. I have a doc appointment next month, should I request a mammogram just to be on the safe side?

Best answer:

Answer by Jeffrey P
At 21 your risk of breast cancer is exceedingly low unless you have certain genetic problems. In that case you would generally have a very strong family history of breast cancer. A mammogram at your age is very very unlikely to be helpful. Because of the density of your breasts it would be almost impossible to draw any conclusions.

Also, it is highly unlike that you have fibrocystic disease at your age. Breast pain or mastalgia is often times called fibrocystic disease, but women under the age of 35 rarely have true fibrocystic disease. Causes of breast pain in your age group could be cyclical mastalgia (period related breast pain that isn’t always fibrocystic disease), poorly fitting bra (very common), recurring trauma (this is fairly common).

Discuss this with your doctor. Consider seeing a breast specialist like a general surgeon if your doctor does not help.

When a person has a Fibroadenoma lump inside their breast is the breast sometimes red on the outside ?

Question by Lisa: When a person has a Fibroadenoma lump inside their breast is the breast sometimes red on the outside ?

Best answer:

Answer by Gymnast8168
Yes it is. I had a Firoadenoma lump that I had removed a few years back. I first noticed when it was small, thought it would go away. But then it got worse. My skin turned pink and warm to touch.

In sense it is something the body is trying to fight off, irritating the tissue, making the skin appear red in color.

Hope this helps!
